2024 / 2025 Civic Award

Overview of 2024 – 2025

The 21st year of the Torbay and Devon Civic Award was the biggest so far. 490 pupils from 40 primary schools received certificates at two presentations at St Cuthbert Mayne School and two presentations at Isca Academy, bringing the all-time total of young graduates to just under 5,000.

Certificates were presented by the Torbay Civic Mayor Councillor Barbara Lewis and the Deputy Chair of Devon Council Councillor Rosie Dawson. Presentations were introduced by Isca head Teacher Vicki Joyce and St Cuthbert Mayne Assistant Headteacher Tracey Dearling who both spoke particularly movingly of the impact of the award. Thanks are extended as usual to both schools for their warm hospitality and support.

Karen Thomson spoke of the importance of the schools in providing the opportunities and support for the pupils to take part and benefit from the award, and thanked school staff for their hard work and belief. Each, in return, spoke of the huge benefits to their schools and pupils through their commitment.

This year, Ashburton Primary, Eden Park Primary, Barton Hill Academy, Kingsteignton School and Exwick Heights Primary School were welcomed as new school. Four new banners graced the presentation evenings, celebrating the values of the award: Independence, Determination, Commitment, Respect, Aspiration, Citizenship and Love
