2025 / 2026 Civic Award Hazeldown Primary School

Harrison Supporting the Teignmouth Mutual Aid Community Larder

Harrison Hancock, a Year 6 pupil at Hazeldown School, has shown amazing efforts to achieve the Torbay & Devon Civic Award by supporting a local charity during the festive season.

Recognizing that many families face financial challenges over Christmas and New Year—balancing the cost of gifts with rising heating and lighting bills—Harrison chose to support the Teignmouth Mutual Aid Community Larder, a community initiative that provides essential food and supplies to those in need.

To make a difference, Harrison approached the Richard Newton Hall Committee and requested permission to set up collection stations within the building for donations from local groups and clubs. The committee agreed and sent out an email to all groups, encouraging contributions. Harrison’s efforts soon gained wider attention, and the Teign Corinthian Yacht Club offered to host an additional collection station.

Due to Harrison’s determination and the generosity of the community, numerous donations were gathered to help local families during the festive season. Harrison would like to express his gratitude to Richard Newton Hall Volunteers, Committee, Members, and Club Users and Teign Corinthian Yacht Club for their kindness and support in making this initiative a success.
