2026 ended in great pride and celebration as six hundred and eight children from thirty-nine primary schools received their Torbay and Devon Civic Award certificates at two presentations at St Cuthbert Mayne School and two presentations at Isca Academy, bringing the all-time total of young graduates to just under six thousand. The 22nd year of the Torbay and Devon Civic Award was once again a record year! Stories from each of the schools about pupils’ participation in the award were particularly impressive with thousands of pounds raised for causes and charities chosen by the children, and a huge variety of civic volunteering.
Certificates were presented by the Deputy Torbay Civic Mayor Councillor John Fellows and the Chair of Devon Council Councillor Rosie Dawson. Presentations were introduced by ISCA head Teacher Vicki Joyce and St Cuthbert Mayne Assistant Headteacher Colin Horrocks who both spoke particularly movingly of the impact of the award. Thanks are extended as usual to both schools for their warm hospitality and support.
Karen Thomson spoke of how great things can grow from small beginnings and encouraged the children to think of their participation in the Torbay and Devon Civic Award this yearas a foundation for the rest of their lives. She praised the teachers and support staff who run the award and thanked them for their hard work and belief. Each, in return, spoke of the huge benefits to their schools and pupils through their commitment.
This year, Denbury Primary, Abbotskerswell Primary and Willowbrook Primary were welcomed as new schools.
