2016 / 2017 Civic Award Homeless Shelter News Torre C of E Academy

Torre – Helping The Homeless Shelter

For five Saturdays, fourteen pupils from Torre C of E Academy participated in the homeless shelter at Central Church. We set up a comfortable and warm place for the homeless to spend the night. Setting up was fun: making beds, setting the table for dinner and laying out our donations of hats, gloves and socks.

As a school, we held a mufti day, which helped us to build up a collection of money and toiletries. Families donated gloves, socks hats, toothbrushes and toothpaste for the homeless shelter. In addition to this, both students and staff gave their time to volunteer at the shelter. We met some of the homeless and they told us how much they appreciated our help and support.

We were delighted to meet ‘Sandyman’ and he thanked us on behalf of all the homeless benefitting from the shelter. He has promised that he will create a piece of art in the sand for our school to show his appreciation.
Thank you for giving us this opportunity.
