One of the sections of the award focuses on outdoor challenge and adventure training.
For this, the pupils at Torre have traditionally taken part in the Exmoor Challenge.
On Saturday 30th April, 8 Year 6 children from Torre competed against 120 teams of Year 6 -Year 9 children in this established event. This is a 16 mile, unsupported walk across the wilds of Exmoor organised by the Rotary Club.
The event attracts teams from across Devon and Somerset but Torre Academy is the only team from Torbay (and has been for the past 7 years!)
It was a beautiful day for walking and the children did extremely well. One child who suffered badly from asthma, was looked after superbly by his team – making sure he was helped to the next checkpoint and the appropriate adults informed. The teamwork was exemplary!
The teams have been training since February and have completed several training walks at weekends alongside our training partners at Abbotskerswell Primary School. We are very proud of their achievements.
