The 16th year of the Torbay and Devon Civic Award has brought a range of new challenges! 2020 will be a year to remember for all of us and will be a unique one for current Year 6 students! This year many new schools joined us, bringing the total number of schools to 36. Many of our Civic Award participants have used this time to support others, learn new hobbies and adapt new living standards. However, many children have had cancelled residentials and have been unable to demonstrate their commitment to many aspects of the award. Therefore, this year, we are celebrating children who have embraced the spirit and the values of the award, even if they haven’t completed it all.
All successful graduates will be presented with a special edition certificate in recognition of consistent effort and commitment to the values of the Torbay and Devon Civic Award.
Karen Thomson (Award founder and coordinator) comments “Whilst I sympathise with the huge disruption that Year 6 children have had to cope with during their final year at primary school, this has been a time when the values of the award have never been more important! The main aim of the Torbay and Devon Civic Award is that, through taking part, children will develop their character. I know that many of you have carried out some incredible and selfless things to help your families and your communities during these very difficult times, and I’m delighted that we can celebrate these! Well done to you all!”
Gary Vine (Online Editor) comments: “It’s great that year 6 students have returned to the classroom with great enthusiasm and understanding and shows true maturity for what they demonstrate. Each and every participant deserves recognition for their efforts.”
