In the year that I undertook the Civic Award, it was newly introduced to Shiphay School by Mrs Thomson.
It covered a wide spectrum of tasks ranging from: developing a new hobby – I chose cooking; organising our own charity event and taking part in adventure training. I developed valuable life-skills, such as thinking about others before myself, how to be a good leader and motivate a team. I continue to develop and use these skills in all aspects of my life and now especially in my football career.
By completing the Civic Award I learned that persevering with a difficult challenge is worth all the hard work and can be truly rewarding. This came to fruition more recently when I was offered a contract by Premier League club Southampton.
I would strongly recommend this programme to young people who are aspiring to be successful in whatever path they choose.
