9 Year 6 students from Offwell C of E Primary School were successfully awarded the Torbay and Devon Civic Award 2020/2021.
At Offwell School we were proud of the effort made by all our Year 6 children to complete the Torbay & Devon Civic Award. Mrs Legg, Headteacher (and previous assessor) looked at all the folders and made the following comments:
All the children contributed evidence of their active roles in life in and beyond school. Our children supported a variety of causes and charities including the National Health Service, Devon Wildlife Trust, British Heart Foundation, Devon & Cornwall Police and the Tourette Alliance. Most of the organisations chosen were as a result of personal experience or connection with people affected or helped by the
I was impressed with how active they all are with hobbies including gymnastics, swimming, Tae Kwon-Do to skateboarding. They are equally diverse in their non-active achievements – although it is difficult to say whether baking is active or non-active!
Their Active Citizenship in the school community has helped us cope with a difficult year. Some have been instrumental in guiding other children in their roles as captains of our school houses and others have been busy working on our areas outside class to support the environment with clever planting and providing water features.
Overall, despite the issues created by Covid-19 I feel our children have risen to the challenge presented by the Torbay & Devon Civic Award and have shown they can maintain commitments and fully embrace the ethos of the Award.
