Eco Council

Matilda, Neve, Bea, Amber and Freyaare members of the Eco Council. As a group, they decided that the school should try to be more environmentally friendly, especially around Christmas when lots of plastic and wrapping paper is wasted. The girls planned and collected resources for each class to make a recycled Christmas decoration instead of using new resources. They also organised a whole school litter pick.

The children also decided that they wanted to improve the school environment by clearing the vastly over-grown pond area and planting seeds in the allotments in order to encourage more wildlife and allow the other children in the school easier access to these areas.

Litter Picking and Beach Clean

Matilda, Neve, Bea and Freya have been working hard to clean up the local beaches. They have taken part in many litter picks and were surprised by how much plastic they picked up.

Matilda

Matilda has a very unusual hobby: wand-making! This involves identifying trees and branches that are suitable, designing the wand, whittling the branches and sanding them to create a finished product! To stay active, Matilda has taken up walking and she took part in the 12 Days of Christmas walking challenge! She also took part in the Devon School Games ‘Festive Family Activity Challenge’. To raise money for her chosen charity, Devon Wildlife Trust, Matilda teamed up with Bea to hold a hedgehog trail through the woods. They painted hedgehogs and numbers on pebbles for others to find and record their answers. They also collected ink cartridges and held a zoom quiz. They raised a fantastic £87! Matilda has also helped out in her local area by taking part in litter picks.

Amber Joyce

Amber is House Captain of Gilbert House. To raise money for her charity, Greenpeace, Amber organised a charity event that included a raffle, guess the sweets in a jar and best picture competition. She raised an amazing £324! Amber also donates to RSPB and sponsors a turtle. To help out in her local area, Amber helped to deliver food to vulnerable people in her street and also designed, made and sold jewellery to passers-by. To stay fit, Amber has started skate-boarding. She also plays tennis and has started Guides. Amber also enjoys making jewellery and up-cycling furniture.

Nerve Harding

Neve is House Captain of Drake House. For her chosen charity, she partnered with Freya to raise money for the Marine Conservation Society. They led a range of activities such as guess the name of the cuddly creature, a book sale and they also took part in a sponsored paddle-board from the River Yealm to Wembury. They raised a whopping £1144! To help out in her local area, Neve (along with her sister Bea) have been walking their neighbour’s dog as she had injured herself. She also helped with litter picks and baking cakes for neighbours during lockdown. In her spare time, Neve has been making beauty products with natural ingredients. Her favourites are the rose bath salts and peppermint lip scrub. To keep fit, Neve has taken up walking. She has walked a number of coast paths and beaches.

Bea Harding

Bea is one of our Head Girls. To achieve this role, she had to apply in writing to the Headteacher and her duties have included reading a poem at the Remembrance Service and organising the food for Harvest. Bea has also enjoyed helping out in the community by walking her neighbour’s dog and helping an injured lady on the local coast path. To stay active, Bea has been walking the South Hams coast path (which is 74 miles long)! Bea also enjoys baking and cooking both sweet and savoury treats but the hardest thing to make was a Baked Alaska! To raise money for her chosen charity, Devon Wildlife Trust, Bea teamed up with Matilda to hold a hedgehog trail through the woods. They painted hedgehogs and numbers on pebbles for others to find and record their answers. They also collected ink cartridges and held a zoom quiz. They raised a fantastic £87!

Freya Chishti

Freya is the captain of Drake House. Freya has earnt her ‘Green Blue Peter Badge’ by creating posters for ‘Save our sea, planet and wildlife.’ To keep active, Freya has been walking the coastal paths around the South Hams with her friends.
